In 1987, Mary J. Andrade began a research project in Janizio Michoacan, about the iconic celebration. Every year, Andrade covers a different state if Mexico to gather information and to photograph a tradition that originated during the pre-Hispanic era. She has published a collection of the findings on her travels in her book series Through the Eyes of the Soul: Day of the Dead in Mexico.
Andrade will elaborate on her travels and the historical significance on Dia de los Muertos during her talk, Day of the Dead: A Passion for Life at the celebration at MOSTHistory. Copies of her book will be available for purchase at the Museum Store. Andrade will allot time to autograph copies of her book during the celebration.
