¡Fandango!-History Mystery

¡Fandango!-History Mystery is one of the longest running dinner/auction events in the Valley. This year’s theme is a toast to the historians among us who research and record their findings of the past to solve the mysteries of history. The proceeds from this festive event will help support MOSTHistory’s preservation and education programs that benefit the people of South Texas.

The collections and exhibitions at MOSTHIstory are full of artifacts, photographs and more that have stories to tell. Much like a detective, a historian relies on well-documented research, evidence and critical thinking to solve the mysteries of the past. Sometimes the story held within the object or image is easy to understand and sometimes they hold onto their secrets for another history detective from another time to reveal. With these collections and the research done by historians, the museum creates a visitor experience that enchants, enlightens and educates while telling the story of the borderlands of South Texas and northeastern Mexico.

¡Fandango! guests will be invited to have a quick look at the restored 1910 Jail and while viewing a few curiosities from the collection. Here, guests can see if their sleuthing can bring to light the once upon a time use for these objects. Then, it is on to check-in at the River Crossroads gallery where guests can see how artifacts and historical images are used to create a wonderful museum experience.

After checking into the event, guests may try their luck at the “Who Won It?” Drawings where a wide variety of items will be in plain sight, but the number of tickets in the containers will remain a secret until the drawing takes place. New this year, “Mystery Boxes” will be filled with gift cards and items with a variety of values from $100 to $1,000. There will be at least one very special prize, but those who play will have to choose wisely to find it! Present or not, those who participate in the Luck of the Draw just might win a trip to Charleston, Lake Tahoe or some other fantastic destination.

The Silent Auction will be online so that both guests at the event and those who cannot attend can bid on amazing packages and services donated by individuals and business owners.

The Live Auction will take place following dinner in the Big Tent. Ross McKenzie will be back as the auctioneer and Channel 5’s Tim Smith will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the first time this year. A seated dinner with a very tasty menu will also be served prior to the Live Auction.
