Fiesta de Nochebuena Online: How To Make – Pan de Polvo & Tamales

December 12, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Enjoy the holiday season with the Museum of South Texas History in the comfort of your own home. Museum staff presents “How To Make: Pan de Polvo and Tamales” at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 on Facebook Live. Both dishes are considered South Texas traditions.

Museum staff will showcase how to make pan de polvo and tamales with recipes provided by renowned chefs Melissa Guerra and Adán Medrano. During the presentation, you will also learn the historical context of those respective recipes and its ingredients such as lard and spices. These presentations will broadcast live at facebook.com/MOSTHistory/live, and will be recorded and published on Facebook and the museum’s website “mosthistory.org.”

If you are inspired to make these recipes, museum staff will host a Holiday Heritage Family Food Kit curbside pickup at the museum’s parking lot on Sunday, Dec. 13. These free kits, while supplies last, will feature the ingredients for the pan de polvo and tamale recipes. FRIENDs of MOSTHistory can pick up a kit from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the general public can stop by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors must enter the museum’s parking lot from Closner Blvd. in Edinburg, Texas. Museum staff will supply the kit to you curbside, so you do not need to exit your vehicle. Kits are generously provided by Feeding Fiestas, a partnership with H-E-B.

For more information about FRIENDships and the kit, please contact the museum at 956-383-6911 or send an email to rballesteros@mosthistory.org.
