Summer Nights at the Museum: River Frontier
June 10 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The family-favorite event, Summer Nights at the Museum: A Family Adventure, returns in person this year at the Museum of South Texas History.
Summer Nights at the Museum is a three-night series featuring living history games and puppet shows that highlight South Texas history. Upon entrance, families will receive a Scavenger Hunt and, when completed, can be turned in for a chance to win the nightly prize drawing. Those who attend all three nights, and complete the scavenger hunts, will be entered into the Grand Prize drawing on the final night. Mark those calendars for the second and third Summer Nights: June 24 and July 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On this first night, the River Frontier section, which is part of the museum’s Rio Grande Legacy exhibition, will come to life with costumed characters and history-based games. During the night, the all-new puppet show, “No-pal is Greater,” will perform in the Courtyard Gallery. This show tells the story of why South Texans eat nopales (prickly pear cactus) and other foods native to the region.
As a keepsake of the night’s adventures, schedule a photo session at the Family Photobooth between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Families can take a photograph with a Rio Grande Valley scene as a background and purchase a print at the Museum Store. All prints must be purchased at the time of scheduling a photo session. Refuel to continue the adventures with E&B Elotes, which will sell snack favorites such as corn on the cob and corn in a cup, aguas frescas and other Rio Grande Valley classic treats. E&B Elotes accepts Zelle payments only.
Don’t forget to visit the Museum Store to purchase other borderland-spirit mementos, and please consider supporting the museum with a FRIENDship. FRIENDs of MOSTHistory enjoy 10% off their purchases at the Museum Store and free admission to all three Summer Nights at the Museum.
Each Summer Nights event will observe social distancing across the museum galleries and outdoor areas and masks are required.
