The Great Historical Shootout was held Mi Ranchito Sporting Clays in Linn, Texas, April 7. This event is a fundraiser to support the museum’s preservation and educational programs.

¡Cascarón! 2019
The Museum of South Texas History hosted ¡Cascarón! a family-friendly event that highlighted the Easter traditions of South Texas and northeastern Mexico. Sylvia Sanchez-Garza presented her teen novel, “Cascarones,” during the event.
Free Community Day 2019
Free Community Day invited the community to enjoy free admission to the museum plus other programs such as “Pass the Pages” and The Big Squeeze Conjunto Semi-Finals. Thanks to all who participated and volunteered throughout the day at the museum.

Story Time Tuesday June 4 2019
Story Time Tuesday, a program that features a read aloud presentation followed by a hands-on activity. This year, Girl Scout Troop 398 from Pharr is collaborating with the museum on this program. Having learned to sew while earning a previous badge, they practiced their skills by fashioning faux food items from felt. These faux food items will be used during Story Time Tuesday.

Joseph Fox, the associate education officer at MOSTHistory, presented “Lone Star Brewing: Beer and Progressive Country in the Texas Mystique” for the second time at the museum. Great presentation that included information on Valley native Freddy Fender.

Open House at the Museum

An Evening with FRIENDS
On Sept. 26, FRIENDS of MOSTHistory, Board of Trustees, staff and supporters came to celebrate the legacy of former Executive Director Shan Rankin and welcome the new Chief Executive Officer Francisco Guajardo.
Sunday Speaker Series: Health, Motherhood and Infancy in Colonial RGV
Jamie Starling from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley presented during the Sunday Speaker Series Sept. 29. His presentation discussed the health records of mothers, infants and birthrates in the 18th and 19th centuries.
¡Fandango! 2019
The annual fundraiser was held at the Museum of South Texas History Saturday, Oct. 5. This year’s theme was “History Mystery,” a nod to all the historians who have solved the mysteries of history. Thanks to all who made this event possible and to those who participated in financially supporting the museum.
Free Saturday Morning: Walk & Talk Hispanic Heritage
The museum hosted another fun-filled Free Saturday morning Oct. 12. During Free Saturday Morning, visitors were treated to a historic walking tour of downtown Edinburg and a presentation by Jesus Correa. The historic walking tour was in partnership with the Consulate of Mexico to promote the Nenemi Challenge health campaign. The Nenemi Challenge campaign encourages community health through the tradition of walking as a family and heritage of the Rio Grande Valley.

Professors Michael Faubion and Charles Waite presented during the Sunday Speaker Series Oct. 13 at the Museum of South Texas History. Their presentation highlighted the government and military activity in the Valley during World War I.
