MOSTHistory Happy Hour: Contraband and Corridos

August 16, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

MOSTHistory Happy Hour is a two-hour event that welcomes young professional, history enthusiasts and the young at heart to engage in the museum’s exhibits and its presentation of local history with craft beer tasting. Each event highlights a different historical theme from Ice Age to contemporary such as lucha libre and contraband.

During this happy hour event, guests can learn more about smuggling along the Rio Grande during the Prohibition Era. UTRGV professor and guest speaker, George Díaz, will provide context with the help of his book, “Border Contraband: A History of Smuggling across the Rio Grande.” Copies of the book available for purchase at The Museum Store during the event. Put your smuggling skills to the test by participating in a four-round smuggling interactive tour. Each round, guests have to find ways to pocket extra profit with cotton bales, smuggle salt without paying taxes and hiding tequila in coats and hats in order to trick border inspectors!

Beer samples are 903 Brewers Land of Milk & Honey, Bell’s Octoberfest, Woodchuck Cluster Chuck Variety Pack and Squatters Chasing Tail, provided L&F Distributors. Also available for sampling is a variety of wines, and for those who plan on being a designated drive, non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Beverages are to be served by Happy Hour FRIENDs, the Landmark Lounge and Ignite Loung. MOSTHistory Happy Hour guests can keep their wristbands from the event and present at either the Landmark Lounge or Ignite Lounge to receive 20% off their bar tab that same night. Pair your beverage with barbecue flavors provided by Q’in It Up BBQ Food Truck & Catering.

To complement the theme, conjunto duo, Los Dos del Valle, will play a few corridos and other conjunto tunes in the Grand Lobby. It’ll be a night of interactive fun, networking and more!
